On December 10-11, 2024, the Third Task Group Meeting (TGM-3) took place in Cernavodă, marking a critical step in the preparations for the CONVEX-3 exercise, scheduled for May 2025. The event was held in a hybrid format, with active participation both physically and online. It brought together national and international experts, representatives of national institutions, international organizations and institutions from participating states, including the Nuclearelectrica (SNN) and Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant.

The primary objective of the meeting was to refine the exercise scenario, providing a platform for discussions and collaboration among stakeholders. Participants discussed the exercise’s objectives, key injects, international coordination and core documents, thus facilitating active contributions and involvement from international organizations and institutions from participating states.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the official launch of the CONVEX-3 (2025) exercise, marked by the opening of the official exercise website, https://convex3.nuclearpreparedness.net . The website will serve as a central source of information and communication for all stakeholders, representing a crucial step toward transparency and public awareness, ensuring a steady flow of accurate and relevant data about the preparation and conduct of the exercise. Additionally, the official presentation video of the exercise was launched, outlining its objectives and importance in strengthening international nuclear emergency response capabilities.

This meeting strengthened the collaboration between national institutions and international organizations, establishing a robust framework for organizing a large-scale exercise, which is expected to involve approximately 80 states and international organizations. The event marked a pivotal step in the preparation of CONVEX-3 (2025), reinforcing international partnerships and reaffirming a shared commitment to global nuclear safety.
