ConvEx-3 (2025) returns to Romania after 20 years
Twenty years ago, the first CONVEX-3 exercise, one of the most significant international nuclear emergency response exercises organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), was hosted by Romania from July 5 to July 7, 2005. The scenario simulated a severe accident at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, challenging not only the national response mechanisms but also the international coordination required to protect people and the environment. The 2005 exercise was a landmark event for Romania, establishing its reputation as a trusted partner in nuclear safety.
ConvEx-3 (2025), Romania
Now, two decades later, in 2025, Romania will once again host CONVEX-3, reaffirming its dedication to excellence and its readiness to tackle the most demanding scenarios. Through increased complexity and scale, this event is not only a natural continuation but a showcase of the remarkable progress made in nuclear safety and security, emergency preparedness and response, and global cooperation. By hosting such an exercise of great importance, Romania strengthens its position as significant contributor in enhancing global nuclear safety and security and a proactive player in addressing future challenges.
ConvEx-3 are full-scale exercises designed to evaluate international emergency response arrangements and capabilities for a severe nuclear or radiological emergency over several days, regardless of its cause.
